In order to keep safe from E-COLI 0157 you need to know about it:

IT CAN cause a very nasty illness especially in young children but is very unlikely to do so if you just take the right precautions.

 

ANIMALS, particularly the larger farm animals, sometimes carry it without being ill.

 

HUMANS can pick it up from those animals by touching very small amounts of their droppings and putting the bacteria in their mouths either directly (sucking fingers etc) or indirectly (via food, comforters, toys, footware etc).

 

TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING WE WILL:

 

MAKE SURE that if possible no droppings from these animals get onto anywhere you walk.

 

MAKE SURE that there are plenty of animals that small children can see without being able to touch them.

 

BUT - YOU MUST:

 

DECIDE whether you want your children (or adults) to touch the animals.  This especially needs to be considered for children who put things in their mouths, for those with a weakened immune system or for pregnant Mums.

 

MAKE SURE you and all your party wash your hands well after you touch the animals or their pens, after you remove footware and before you play, eat or put hands near mouths.

 

NEVER rely on gels or sanitizers to clean you hands.  Use SOAP AND WATER
