We welcome children of all ages at the farm. When you arrive you will be met by a friendly member of staff who will show you to your undercover picnic area ( heated for winter visits ) where you are able to leave your bags and lunches.

School groups who have chosen to have their farm visit organised are collected from their allocated picnic area and given a variety of demonstrations and talks about the animals and farm life.  These are only given during term time.

Activities vary according to the season and may include duck, pig or chicken feeding, sheep milking, lamb feeding, animal handing ( where children are encouraged to stroke the cockerel, hen and baby chicks ) which is one of the highlights for school visits. Schools can also choose between a tractor ride around the farm's ponds or go to our spinning room and have a demonstration on how to spin wool !

The children (even the youngest) are encouraged to climb in with some of the smaller animals and to hold young chicks and to stroke the baby rabbits. The staff have lots of experience with young children and take them in small numbers, adapting the talks to each group.

All children are given a activity booklet.

Nursery classes and playgroups who visit on school days do not usually require the demonstrations (except the animal holding) and instead take advantage of the free play session in our indoor play barn.  This ensures that whatever the weather they have the chance to learn and play.

Weekend and holiday groups such as cubs, brownies and mother and toddler groups have a less structured visit although farm staff are always on hand should they need any help.  For these group bookings a minimum number of 20 paying children applies.  Please call for prices and availability.

NB- We do not recommend farm visits for large groups of children older than 8 years. The over 8's often become bored - a nightmare for the poor helpers trying to supervise them.

We do not take payment in advance for group visits but do require full payment on the day of your visit before the activities start.
